Easy summer evenings

summer 2012 240It’s Friday night. And what did I do you are wondering? Well, let me tell you.

It started with a rousing baseball game with the neighborhood kids. My son taught me how to pitch and the neighbor girl taught me the baseball stance. It was a beautiful and hot evening and we played and played. It was a blast and that’s right, this mama hit it out of the park!

Next we had more young friends come over. Their folks deserved a date night! I made gluten-free and regular mac-n-cheese while 6 kids played soccer in the back yard. We had many different types of dinner, some with cheese, some with tofu, all with blueberries, carrots and water.

After dinner we began what turned in the a very intense debate…about which movie to watch. The age ranges for the evening were 5-11, 4 girls and 2 boys and one mama (age 40) who has a couple of opinions as well. We ended up watching Alvin and the Chipmunks. I know, quality programming! I watched off and on but also unloaded the dishwasher, cleaned up the house and went through the mail. Why is it easier to watch 6 kids than 3 sometimes?!?!

After my cleanup session, I was invited to dance by the most delightful 5 year old with a tiara, my 8 yr old did some sweet brake-dancing moves while the chipmunks were bustin’ a groove. It was pretty awesome.

When the movie ended, all 6 kids did a conga line around the house which ended up outside as the game of tag.

My friend came to scoop up her kids and brought me homemade (and still warm) gluten free chocolate cake.

This evening was delightful. Happy summer evening to you!
