This morning was our college executive team meeting. I just love this hard working crew. We talk about student success, faculty contracts and budgets – and have a great time while managing a college of 8,000 people.
This afternoon I met with three scholarship recepients. I asked them each to share their stories as part of prep for an upcoming event. It turns out all three of them experienced abusive relationships and had been through tremendous hardships to get where they are today. All of them expressed, in their own way, deep gratitude for their scholarship and said that education is their pathway away from their challenging past and towards a bright future.
Tonight was the ribbon cutting for our new college campus. So many friends, colleagues and community members have worked tirelessly to open these doors for students.
Tonight we had mayors, local college presidents, senators and government representatives all here to celebrate education, economic development and community.
It was truly an inspiring night. The First Lady Trudi Inslee joined us. We attended the same high school and we literally sang the Ingraham Rams fight song together. How cool is that?!?
As the day comes to a close, I am grateful for an inspiring day, great colleagues to share this work with, and for a community that truly cares and places value on education. Thank you.
