Gratitude – Day 5 – Hope

No matter how gloomy or bad the day might seem, we always have the power of hope. The knowing that this moment is just that one moment and around the next corner things will be different – the green light when the horizon looks cloudy.

There have been moments in my life that have been pretty tough. Discouraged, alone and not sure of the next steps, I put one foot in front of the other. We all have had hard times in our lives. In those moments, there is always a spark of hope, somewhere. It may take a moment to find, a friend might have to remind you to look for it, but it’s there.
Once you find that spark, hold on and ride it out of the darkness. It may be a flower growing in the sidewalk crack, the knowing that you didn’t want to feel this way anymore, an inspiring quote, the smile of a child. These are all gifts of hope that are made to remind you, no matter how bad your current situation may seem, there is always something different around the next corner.

As you go about your day, look for those signs of hope. A funny conversation in the coffee shop, a green light amidst gray clouds, and email from a friend. Take these tiny joys and focus on them instead of whatever bad thing happened in the past. Keep noticing these moments of hope. String them together like the cranberries and popcorn we string for the Christmas tree. Keep stringing them together until there are so many, that you have plenty to share. And then do that, share hope with others, your community, friends and loved ones. Keep sharing until you feel hope and joy radiating from you and it becomes your DNA.

Today I am thankful for hope. How it has moved me through hard times and inspires me daily.
